Vidya is a Carnatic Vocalist based in the Albany, NY area. A disciple of Padmabhushan Lalgudi Sri Jayaraman since 1993, Vidya has performed concerts extensively in India and the USA. She has won numerous honors including the 2010 Artist Grant Award from Saratoga Arts and NY State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), 2009 Town of Clifton Park Arts Award and two New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) SOS awards from The Arts Center of the Capital Region. Vidya teaches vocal music for students of all levels. A Chartered Accountant and an MBA-Finance who was also admitted to CFA Institute membership in 2006 , Vidya is also a top academic achiever. She lives in Clifton Park, NY with her husband, Dr. K. Subramanian who is a research scientist at GE Global Research, and their children, Skandan and Parvathi. Vidya's adherence to classicism, soulful rendition, varied repertoire and her passion for innovation have won listeners' appreciation. Vidya is also an articulate speaker who leverages her rigorous academic training to deliver lectures on various aspects of Carnatic music in a lucid and interesting style. Vidya's music classes reflect her professionalism. She blends the traditional gurukulam style with current day digital and other media aids to make learning easy for today's students. Her Raagarasika podcasts have won international acclaim.
